At the end of a week long seminar for pastors with Norman Vincent Peale, organizers provided a Q&A session.
One pastor asked, “Rev. Peale, I’m completely in agreement about rethinking every situation in my church to bring out the positive. But there is one fellow in my congregation who is so negative. He disagrees with everything I say. He tries to sabotage every initiative. He stirs up other members of the church against one another. He’s attacked me and my family personally and been very hurtful. I’ve tried every angle I can think of to see a positive side to his criticism and to use the conflict he generates toward positive ends, but nothing I’ve tried has yielded any positive results. What can I do?”
To which Rev. Peale replied, “Well, every church could use a good funeral.”
